Nathan MacKinnon bounced back after an ejection the previous game. The Avs, however, are still struggling with one part of their game. The Senators got good news from the league on Thursday. Also, did we see the goal of the year by a San Jose Sharks forward?

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — March 13.

Colorado Hockey Now

Nathan MacKinnon had a chip on his shoulder following an ejection on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Seattle Kraken, they just so happened to be the next team on the schedule, and the victims of a four-point night for the Avs’ superstar centerman.

Colorado only gave up one goal. And it was while they were on the power play. They have a shorthanded goal problem.

Around The NHL

Ottawa Senators: Starting with the biggest story of the night, the Ottawa Senators were given back the first-round draft pick that they were supposed to forfeit because of an issue with an Evgeni Dadonov trade several years ago. Instead, the league is allowing them to pick No. 32 in the 2026 NHL Draft, regardless of where they finish. That means this year’s Stanley Cup championship will hold the 31st pick (well, whoever wins the Cup probably traded their first-rounder, but you get the point).

San Jose Hockey Now: Goal of the year?! William Eklund has a case for it.

Boston Hockey Now: Eklund’s goal helped the Sharks end Boston’s long home winning streak.

Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard has had a little fire in his belly all season. And it’s helping. He was letting the fans in Utah have it on Thursday.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings are watching their position in the playoffs slowly fall lower and lower after another loss. If they don’t clean up their act soon, they might not qualify at all.

Philly Hockey Now: The Edmonton Oilers couldn’t help the Avs and stop the Dallas Stars. But the Flyers helped a little bit, holding the Minnesota Wild to just one point. It might be safe to say the Wild aren’t going to catch the Avs anymore.
