Dater’s Daily Links: The view from LA and some Joe Thornton rumblings

Avalanche Trade Target Joe Thornton

Some murmuring going on out there about Joe Thornton maybe moving by the Feb. 24 trade deadline (NBC)

My take: I will not be surprised if he goes back to Boston. That would be a great story, either way. I will also not be at all surprised if he winds up on the Colorado Avalanche. To me, he’d be a nice fit here. He’d be short-term insurance for Nazem Kadri, and he’d be a potential playoff run replacement for a guy like a Tyson Jost or a Vlad Kamenev. Look, we all want Jost to succeed. But here’s a fact: He’s gone 30 straight games without a goal entering tonight’s Stadium Series game. Stay tuned.

Speaking of the game tonightd here’s some perspective from the Los Angeles side (LA Times)

Here’s a behind the scene look at the upcoming Avalanche Stadium Series game (Colorado Hockey Now)

(Now there is a bigger chance for a Sharks selloff at the deadline)

Jay Bouwmeester update (NHL.com)

(Will he be able to play again? It seems unclear at the moment. But at least he’s alive and doing much better. He’s had a good, long career as it is. The Blues may, obviously, be in the market for a D-man by the deadline. He was a big part of their team still).

Here’s a good story about how they got that fighter jet onto the field at Falcon Stadium (NHL.com)

Great story on Paul Bissonnette (aka Biz Nasty). He will be at the game tonight (Globe and Mail)

Alex Tuch out multiple weeks for Vegas with LBI. Tough loss for Golden Knights (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

Jost might have gone 30 games without a goal but he still has more goals than Thornton. I just dont see the upside of having Thornton here, if there is a player from the sharks to get it would be Melkar Karlsson, he is a big reason why the sharks have a top pk unit and this is an area of weakness for the avs

Of more concern to me isn’t necessarily Jost but the 2C position for the next month. Too big of a change for Compher. I think “Jumbo” would be a great addition.

You gotta figure big Joe will get some jump and kick it up a notch if he were to come here. He’s been doing this a long time and I’m sure its hard to get pumped with his current team/situation night in and night out. Make the move if it doesn’t cost too much.
