In the second installment of what we expect to be a semi-regular feature at Colorado Hockey Now, longtime NHL scout and video coach Scott Masters gives us some insider details on what really goes on in the War Rooms of NHL teams on trade deadline day.

Monday is the NHL’s next deadline day. Scott has worked for the Florida Panthers, Avalanche, St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens. Follow Scott on Twitter @scottmasters55.

“Deadline Day”

Deadline Day should be a national holiday. It was one of my favorite days of the year.  Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Deadline Day.

Buyer or Seller, either one; It gave new hope, excitement.

A few days leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline, staff starts to gather in a location that the general managers decided on months before. For our staff in Montreal, we would set up shop wherever the team was at that given time of year.  Other teams will set up shop in their own offices, some set up shop in a remote location, and some teams would rather save money and have their staff available by phone if needed.
