Cale Makar and Bo Byram return to Avs lineup tonight

Two pretty good defensemen will return to the Avs lineup tonight for their game with the streaking Minnesota Wild: Cale Makar and Bo Byram.

Avs coach Jared Bednar made it official just now, saying both have been cleared by the medical staff to play again. J.T. Compher has also been medically cleared, but he’ll be a healthy scratch tonight. The forward lines have just been too good of late to disrupt anything there.

Makar was running the first power play at the skate this morning. Sam Girard had been doing it in his stead. Girard, by the way, did not take part in the skate, taking treatment instead. But Bednar said he will play tonight.

Here is the lineup for the Avs against the hot Wild:

Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen

Saad-Kadri-Burakovsky

Nichushkin-Jost-Donskoi

Calvert-Bellemare-O’Connor

NOTEBOOK: Avs have held opponents to 30 shots or less in 17 straight games. … Dan Renouf cleared waivers. … Avs are -150 favorites to win outright against the Wild at SuperBook Colorado, and SuperBook has greatly boosted the payout odds on the prop bet if Nathan MacKinnon will score a goal or not. So Miska remains the backup? Curious why Werner was scratched by the Eagles last night I thought he might be in uniform for the Avs this evening?

Good point. The Avs would do better with Werner or someone out of the stands as opposed to miserable Miska.

We’ll, Super Joe knows better than I. I thought for sure that Renouf would be picked up by some team looking for defensive help that has scouted the Avs. Teams like Boston that went with a mediocre waiver pickup like Tinordi earlier in the year. I guess that’s why Sakic fleeces the other GM’s all the time.

Here’s hoping that Renouf stays on the taxi squad instead of being sent down. You can always use a physical presence on the blue line. And with the Avs history of injuries, it’s nice to have players with some experience.

Look at that lineup! It’s worth a minute to just read back through every name and reflect on how much they’re all individually picking up momentum of late (Cale and Bo withstanding, of course). Going to be a good one tonight at Ballerina!
