Dater’s Daily: McCarty stands up for Detroit, Kane’s San Jose home on market

Good Friday to all, hope you all have something good planned for the weekend. We’re nearing September, which is a month in which Avalanche players will be on the ice in official capacities. Still no training camp schedule, but that should come real soon. Meantime, let’s do some hockey links, starting with one featuring our old friend, Darren McCarty:

  • A guy who was NOT drafted by the Detroit Pistons, Jalen Green, went on to say how relieved he was and essentially trashed the city. That didn’t sit well with McCarty, who fired back (Detroit Hockey Now)
  • Obviously, Detroit has had some problems over the last 50 years, but I always liked being there. Not once in all my years of traveling there did I ever have one problem with anything, and I walked all over the city at all hours. To me, Detroit had – and still has – a great soul to it. It’s got so much great American history (birth of the automobile, Motown sound, etc.).
  • In the early days of covering the Avs, I’d always stay at the Marriott Renaissance Center, a magnificent hotel just down the block from Joe Louis Arena. By the way, on my final visit to the Joe, I shot some video of what it was like to walk into the press box there.

  • I always gained a few pounds in Detroit, though. Why? Because they had free unlimited Little Caesar’s pizza pretty much at all times.
  • Evander Kane has put his San Jose home up for sale (San Jose Hockey Now)
  • Boston: Sources confirmed to BHN (which has been one of the leaders covering the Jack Eichel NHL trade chatter) to expect a resolution soon. Both sides are “sick of this sh*t.”
  • Philly: Sean Couturier will be around in Philadelphia for a long time. The Flyers also splashed $62 million on their top center.
  • How would New York Rangers tough guy Ryan Reaves have handled the Tom Wilson fiasco last season? “We’re fighting three times, or I’m jumping you.”
  • Five NHL coaches on the hot seat – and five ready to jump in (Hockey News)
  • The GM of the Barrie Colts can hardly contain his excitement at signing first-round Avs draft pick Oskar Olausson, calling him a “steal” of the draft (Barrie360)
