Dater’s Daily: Patrick Kane Rumors Likely To Heat Up, And Don’t Think Avalanche Won’t Be Interested

A good, snowy morning to all in the Denver area. As my mom used to say to my unenthused, teenage laconic self: “You got some shovelin’ to do today.” But first, let’s do some hockey news and links, starting with what is likely to be a growing chorus of trade rumors from the peanut gallery regarding Chicago future Hall of Famer, Patrick Kane:

  • The Blackhawks are turning into the team everybody expected them to be – awful – after a fluky, fast start. The Blackhawks have two huge, highly-paid names on their payroll – Kane and Jonathan Toews.
  • At least one Chicago columnist thinks Kane will now be traded, and some rumor sites say the Avalanche is on his list of teams he’d consider a deal to. Elliotte Friedman said over the summer that he thinks Kane-to-Colorado could happen at some point.
  • I absolutely think the Avalanche would/will seriously consider trying to find a way to make a Kane deal work, if the Blackhawks truly are considering shopping him. Keep in mind, Kane has a full no-trade clause. He controls where he’d go, period.
  • If not Kane, yeah, I think they’d try to get Toews. Let’s face it, this team needs another good stick in the top six. Yeah, I know a lot of woes will go away once Gabe Landeskog and Valeri Nichushkin come back. But, to me anyway, there’s still something of a void in the top six, even with them. We just haven’t seen enough consistency from Alex Newhook to warrant being the 2C. Evan Rodrigues was starting to do a better job at 2C, but now he’s hurt and you still wonder if he’s good enough to stay in the top six.
  • A rejuvenated Patrick Kane, playing for a fourth Stanley Cup, I think would do wonders for this team. Don’t get me wrong: I will still take my chances with this team, even without a Patrick Kane. It’s a damn good team without him. But he, to me anyway, puts the Avalanche instantly back as a prohibitive Cup favorite with him in the group.
  • Speaking of trade rumors: Buffalo is reportedly very interested in Arizona D-man Jacob Chychrun (Buffalo News)
  • Tyson Jost scored his first goal as a Sabre last night. Avalanche will see him and the Sabres Thursday night.
  • I’ll be on half of the upcoming four-game roadie for the Avalanche – in Boston and Philly. There were some bad logistics in getting to Winnipeg and Buffalo, so it’s just Boston and Philly for me. • Jason Robertson is on quite a heater with Dallas, a 17-game point streak. Learn more on the man here (Dallas Hockey Now)
  • Former Capitals goalies Vitek Vanecek and Ilya Samsonov are thriving after leaving. So what gives with the Washington Capitals?
  • Kasperi Kapanen is an albatross to the Pittsburgh Penguins, who supposely are desperate to deal him (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)
  • Things just keep rolling along for the Vegas Golden Knights (Vegas Hockey Now)
