The Avalanche Are Early Favorites To Win 2024 Stanley Cup

Stanley Cup

The Vegas Golden Knights may have just been awarded the Stanley Cup on Tuesday night, but they’re not the favorites to win it in 2024. At least, not right now.

That title belongs to the Colorado Avalanche.

According to DraftKings, the Avalanche are +800 favorites to win the Stanley Cup next season. The Boston Bruins are tied with them at +800, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are +900.

The Golden Knights have the sixth-best odds at +1300, but that may change quickly.

Is it a surprise the Avalanche are listed as the early favorites? Yeah, it is. They will play all of the 2023/24 campaign without their Captain, Gabriel Landeskog, who had cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee in May. In addition to missing Landeskog, there are holes to fill in the lineup, particularly up the middle.

That being said, Colorado has the star power to win the Cup if everything comes together. That didn’t happen in 2022/23. Injuries to some very key players, depth issues, and the mysterious absence of Valeri Nichushkin after game two against the Kraken did them in. A longer offseason might be what they need to get back on top, but general manager Chris MacFarland has his work cut out for him.

That work starts now, as the offseason is officially here.
