Evan’s NHL Daily: Johansen Traded to Avalanche, Flyers Prepping Big Trade?
It took a Colorado Avalanche trade for NHL off-season chaos to get kickstarted. On Saturday, the Avalanche announced they had acquired Ryan Johansen from the Nashville Predators for…not much.
But that move started the madness around the NHL, as the Kings and Coyotes made a smaller deal, and the Flyers and Blues are on the verge of making a massive trade.
All that and more in this Sunday edition of Evan’s Daily.
Colorado Hockey Now
As they typically do, the Avalanche went off the board in a trade, getting someone that no one (myself included) had really talked about. And they got him for nothing. Ryan Johansen, at 50% retained, is now a member of the Avalanche, and it only cost Alex Galchenyuk.
What did I think of the trade? You can read about that in my trade analysis.
On Sunday, the National Hockey Now mock draft will be released, and you can see who I have the Avalanche picking. In addition, is J.T. Compher still an option for Colorado?
NHL Trade Chatter
Kevin Hayes was a name we had in mind for the Avalanche in the 2C role, but he might soon be someone Colorado sees a few times a year, as he appears to be on the verge of landing in St. Louis. And it doesn’t sound like he’s the only Flyers player headed to the Blues, as multiple options are on the table. Read more about this potential Blues/Flyers blockbuster here.
And the Los Angeles Kings might be loading up on assets to go out and get Pierre-Luc Dubois. They traded Sean Durzi, one of the many right shot defensemen they had in their system, to the Arizona Coyotes for a second round pick. A Dubois deal might not be far behind…
I'm also hearing that the Kings are moving closer to a deal for PLD. Heard rumblings that Gabe could be involved, but nothing concrete yet.
It's going to be an interesting next few days.

National Hockey Now
Boston: Is there any chance Milan Lucic heads back to the Bruins?
New York Islanders: Scott Mayfield, who played at DU, is coming to the realization that his time on the Island might be over.
Washington: The Capitals added not one, but two highly sought after coaches this summer.
Detroit: The Avalanche were not big fans of heading to Finland in the middle of their season last year. Sounds like Steve Yzerman isn’t looking forward to the Red Wings Sweden trip all that much.
Nashville: More moves are on the way after the Predators dealt Ryan Johansen.
