Evan’s NHL Daily: DeBrusk A Popular Trade Target, Meyers In Da Beauty League
Jake DeBrusk was someone we had our eyes on in a trade for the Colorado Avalanche, but he’s a very popular guy around the NHL. If the Bruins don’t lock him up, plenty of teams will be calling.
With the Colorado Avalanche, Ben Meyers doesn’t have an NHL contract right now, but he’s playing in Da Beauty League up in Minnesota, and scoring goals.
All that and more in this Thursday edition of Evan’s Daily.
Colorado Hockey Now
Nothing is official, but we know when training camp will open for the Colorado Avalanche.
After his first full year as GM of the Avalanche, Chris MacFarland has transformed the roster. It’s now his team. (+)
Ben Meyers is currently without a contract, but he’s playing in Da Beauty League up in Minnesota. On Wednesday night, he got on the board for his team after he went pointless in the first game. Keep in mind, this is essentially shinny hockey…but it’s hockey, and we won’t have much of that for a few months.

Speaking of Meyers, why isn’t he signed right now? And what should be expected of him next season? We’ll dig into that on Thursday.
NHL Trade Chatter
The Boston Bruins are low on cap space as it is, and they’ve lost some key pieces this summer. The same thing could happen next summer.
One key piece they have is power forward Jake DeBrusk. He can become an unrestricted free agent next summer, and if the Bruins do decide to put him up for trade, he’ll be very popular. And if he hits the free agent market, NHL teams will be lining up for his services.
National Hockey Now
San Jose: Interesting story here. Markus Nutivaara was once a promising young defenseman, but a hip injury ended his career early. He doesn’t regret anything, and doesn’t miss hockey either.
Vegas: The Golden Knights extended Brett Howden, who broke out for them this season.
Calgary: Mikael Backlund is leaving the door open to re-sign with the Flames, but can they risk it?
New Jersey: Tomas Nosek signed a one-year deal with the Devils. He would have been a decent depth pickup for the Avalanche, but he’s off the market now.
