Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood on the ice for the first time on Dec. 12 since joining the team.

The Colorado Avalanche traded for two new goalies within a week and a half but only one has played since being acquired.

The Avs got goaltender Scott Wedgewood from the Nashville Predators for Justus Annunen on Nov. 30. Wedgewood came in as relief for Alexandar Georgiev in the epic 5-4 comeback win over the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 3 and is 2-2 in his first four starts.

The Avs swapped Georgiev for Mackenzie Blackwood with the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 9 but he was under the weather to play in the first two games after he joined the team.

Media got its first chance to talk to Blackwood on Thursday morning. The 6-foot-4, 229-pound netminder is a big presence โ€” on and off the ice.

“It’s a great team, great opportunity … I was very excited. Lot of moving parts on the day, but I’m really excited and happy to be here,” Blackwood said after morning skate.

Find out why the 28-year-old was excited to suit up in burgundy and blue, who his favorite player was growing up and where he’s at without his teeth in the press conference below.

Head coach Jared Bednar talked about what the new goaltenders bring to the team. Watch what he said in the video below.

Blackwood is expected to make his first start against the Nashville Predators on Saturday at Ball Arena.
