Deen’s Daily: Injuries to Start Training Camp; Marchand’s Honesty; Ingram Done in Utah

Published

on

The Avs have some injuries to start camp and there are a ton around the league, too. Also, another PTO update, the future of Connor Ingram, and an honest Brad Marchand.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — September 18.

Colorado Hockey Now

Media day was a much better vibe this year than it was 12 months ago. Just having Gabe Landeskog back to start camp is wonderful.

But we also got updates about several pieces of the lineup. For starters, Martin Necas answered questions about his impending contract negotiations. You can read more on that below.

Jared Bednar also gave us an update on injuries to start camp. It looks like Logan O’Connor won’t be the only one on the shelf when players take the ice Thursday. But he still could be the only one to miss opening night. We shall see.

I’ll touch on the others below, but the Avalanche are not some overly cursed team with injuries issues. Maybe they were in the past, but that’s not the case right now. Other teams have far bigger names that are out for much longer.

Here’s the roster for camp.

Around The NHL

The Utah Mammoth are rumored to be one of the teams interested in signing Carter Hart next month. And on Wednesday, their general manager Bill Armstrong announced that Connor Ingram won’t be at camp as the team will look to give him a fresh start. He’ll be on waivers.

I wonder if Ingram would make sense for the Oilers. I’m sure there are other teams that could use him, but Edmonton sticks out the most.

Boston Hockey Now: The biggest name that won’t be on the ice to start training camp because of an injury is David Pastrnak.

Brad Marchand also is not at Bruins camp for the first time in more than a decade and a half. The former Boston captain spoke (in Florida) about what went wrong with contract negotiations with the Bruins.

He was also very honest about what kept him in Florida after the Stanley Cup.

Florida Hockey Now: As for the Panthers, they’ll have Marchand to start camp. But Matthew Tkachuk and Tomas Nosek won’t be available for a while.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings are hoping for a big year from Simon Edvinsson. They’ll have to get it without the young defenseman available for training camp or the preseason.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The last remaining intriguing forward PTO option is joining the Penguins at camp.

Montreal Hockey Now: Key battles at training camp for the Habs.

San Jose Hockey Now: Key battles at training camp for the Sharks.

Other injuries around the league to start camp include Nick Paul in Tampa Bay, Max Domi in Toronto, and a trio of Ukko-Pekka Luukonen, Alex Tuch, and Jordan Greenway in Buffalo.
