Bo Byram sent to the minors. Why this is a good thing

Bo Byram will be sent to the Colorado Eagles for a conditioning stint, the Avalanche have announced. This is a good thing.

It will give Byram – out since before Christmas on a personal leave – a chance to work his way back to the Avs a little more gradually, yet against good competition. Will Byram play a game with the Eagles right away? Don’t know. We’ll let the powers that be tell us that. But I would guess he would, yeah.

The Eagles’ next game is…tomorrow night, in California against the Ontario Reign. I do not know if Byram is accompanying the team to the game, but, again, my bet would be yes. We should know for sure later tonight. Hmm, I might just think about hopping on a flight to L.A. if he is playing, for an up-close look at him (Avs Travel Tip Jar here, hint hint – and if he isn’t playing and I don’t go, any funds will go toward late-season or Avs playoff travel). UPDATE: I’m going.

I think this is the right move by the Avs. Let Bo get his feet wet again playing in the American League, see how he does, before throwing him right back into NHL competition. Fingers crossed, let’s hope this is the beginning of a successful return to the Avalanche for BO Byram.
