Evan’s NHL Daily: Avalanche Linked To Pesce, Goalie Carousel

The rumor mill is running wild around the NHL, and the Avalanche are being linked to a Carolina Hurricanes defenseman, even though it doesn’t necessarily make a ton of sense right now.

And around the NHL, it seems like there are a lot of goaltenders either on the trade market or hitting free agency. With only so many jobs available, you wonder who will be left on the outside looking in.

All that and more in this Tuesday edition of Evan’s Daily.

Colorado Hockey Now

Speaking of goaltenders, the Avalanche drafted Ivan Zhigalov in the 7th round last year, and after spending two years in Major Junior, he’s headed back to Belarus. The Avalanche hold his rights until June 1, 2024.

There is value to be found in the free agent market, but some of those value players are coming off major injuries. Should a team that dealt with so many injuries last year be looking into players like that? A guy like Sean Monahan makes a lot of sense…

(Monahan was just re-signed by Montreal, so guess you can take that name off the board.)

The Avalanche have been linked to Brett Pesce, but on the surface, it doesn’t make a ton of sense. Good defenseman, but where’s the fit?

On Tuesday, look for a mailbag, and a subscribers-only article with some scouting reports on some of the top prospects playing in the Swedish Hockey League from a scout located in that area.

Around the NHL

Connor Hellebuyck is the big dog on the market, but there could be a lot of movement with goalies in the league. Will all of them be able to find jobs?

The Flames have a chance to cash in on Noah Hanifin.
